Production/Project Manager

We’re hiring a production manager to manage our growing list of client projects, as well as helping us to develop internal processes and systems to ensure that our operations run as smoothly as possible.

PART TIME (0.5 FTE) | LONDON | £18 - 20K

The role

Location: Mostly remote, with some time spent in London office each week

Start date: Aug/Sept 2022

Are you a production manager who’d like to use your skills to create a positive impact in the world, by taking on a key role at a small but fast-growing, mission-driven company?

At Orinoco Communications we are looking for a production or project manager who can help us deliver videos, animations and other digital content for our clients from the research and innovation sector.

The role would be ideal for a Junior PM, or a highly experienced Production Coordinator who’s ready to make the move up to the next level. Someone who is excited by having the autonomy to develop and design systems to help us manage and deliver multiple projects, but who is also happy to get stuck into a variety of detailed production tasks.

This would be a part-time role (0.5 FTE), starting at 20 hours/week, with lots of flexibility around when and where those hours are done. Ideally we would like you to spend around one day a week in-person at our studio in London but the rest of your time could be spent remotely.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping design processes to ensure that projects run smoothly

  • Scheduling

  • Budgeting

  • Setting up shoots

  • Managing footage ingest and back-up of data

  • Developing and nurturing freelancer network

  • Managing internal and external projects using Streamtime (no need for prior experience using this platform)

Ideally the candidate will:

  • Have a few years of experience in a production manager or a production coordinator role at a television or video production company, or as a project manager at an agency.

  • Be comfortable working as part of a small organisation, dealing with the range of tasks and responsibilities that comes with that.

  • Be a strong communicator. We’re looking for someone who can communicate with everyone from clients to freelancers and suppliers so that they have a clear sense of what’s happening at all times.

  • Ask lots of questions. We want candidates whose natural curiosity makes them dig beyond the surface level to uncover the most effective ways of doing things.

A bit about us…

Orinoco Communications is a digital communications and content creation agency, based in the UK and USA, specialising in the communication of research and innovation.

We create strategy and digital content to help shine a light on the latest discoveries from the worlds of science, the social sciences and humanities.

That means that our projects are incredibly varied. One week we might be shooting a video series about the impacts of climate change and the next we’ll be producing an animation about how stress affects the human body.

It’s always interesting, it’s always new, and its purpose is always to help the best ideas have a positive impact in the world.

We are a small, friendly team and we’re excited about taking this next step to welcome a new member on board.

If that sounds like you then please take a moment to apply!

How to apply

To apply, please send an outline of your experience and skills no longer than two pages, along with a short covering letter (no more than 200 words) about why you want to join us.

Deadline for applications: 5th August 2022

Next Steps

Once all applications are in we will invite some candidates for an initial (30 - 60 min) conversation with us, either in-person or via video call.

This will give us a chance to learn more about your experience and how you work, and for you to find out more about us.

A second interview will be offered to two or three of the candidates who we think would be the best fit for the role.

If we are still undecided after these conversations, we may follow up with an invitation to complete a (paid) task to assess how you’d approach an activity that’s likely to be a regular part of the role.

We will make decisions and inform candidates within a week of seeing all the people we invited for each particular round of activities.

We will do our best to respond personally to all initial applications but we are a small company, so that might not be possible if the volume of responses is high.
